Inside Line Promotions – LAWTON, Okla. (June 2, 2020) – Trey Burke is coming off a busy week, which started with a trip to Sebring Raceway in Sebring, Fla., for more time in the Road to Indy development program.
The 15-year-old upstart spent last Tuesday and Wednesday honing his skills in a Formula 2000 machine. The two-day advanced class included six 30-minute, on-track sessions in which drivers get analysis on their performance and instructions on how to improve.
“It was definitely different,” Burke said. “You just get better. There was no racing. You do your sessions, download the data, talk about it and go over what to do better.
“It was fun and I learned a lot. There are some things that are simple but different, things like where you sit. I never had to use a clutch pedal before or even shift. I learned pretty quick and it went really well.”
Burke is scheduled to run his first race in the program June 12-14 at NCM Motorsports Park in Bowling Green, Ky.
After Burke finished off his asphalt experience for the week he headed to Texas and Oklahoma on Friday for a pair of 305ci sprint car events.
The first stop was Boyd Raceway in Boyd, Texas. Burke maneuvered from fifth to fourth place in a heat race and from fourth to second place in the B Main to qualify for the main event. Unfortunately, he didn’t get a chance to advance through the running order because of a first-lap flip.
Things turned around Saturday at Lawton Speedway. Burke ran second in a make-up feature and started on the pole for the second main event after winning his heat race.
Burke, who was named IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars National Rookie of the Year in 2019, took the lead on the eighth circuit and was on his way to a win before getting tangled up with another car with one lap to go.
“We were quick,” he said. “As soon as I took the lead on Lap 8 we put a straightaway on second place. If a caution doesn’t come out we would’ve won. As much as it sucks, we know we were fast and know the car was good. We were consistent and had the setup on point. So it was a confidence booster because we know what happened. Even though the results don’t show it, we know we were there and were getting it done.”
The plan for this weekend is to head to 105 Speedway in Cleveland, Texas, on Saturday for a Southern United Sprints event.

Not only are we running his shocks, we have him with us with all of his knowledge to help us out.
