Inside Line Promotions – ALVIN, Texas (April 13, 2021) – The next chapter in the racing career of 16-year-old Trey Burke begins this weekend.
Joe Dooling Autosports established a new team to compete full time with the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship, which is sanctioned by IndyCar. The 2021 campaign features an 18-race season at eight venues in six states and Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The first two rounds will be this Saturday and Sunday at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Ala.
“Pretty much any time there’s been a test we’ve been at it,” Burke said. “I’d say a total of 14 days of track time at five tracks since mid-March.
“We’re pretty confident and I think if you look at the testing lap times we were around mid-field, but to be honest I’m okay with that. If you look at these teams we’re up against, they’ve been in this for a long time. They have two or three cars and big crews. You look at us and there’s one IndyCar guy, a midget guy and a sprint car guy. We’re only 1.5 seconds off the leader. I think we’ll do just fine this year.”
The 18-race season will be the primary racing plan for Burke this year. However, he has a handful of races scheduled in a non-wing sprint car on dirt as well as in an asphalt midget.
“We will be running some non-wing sprint car races with the 410 and in an asphalt midget, and hopefully some other races as well, but this is the focus,” Burke said.
