Inside Line Promotions – ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (May 10, 2021) – Trey Burke will achieve a dream this week when he races on the grounds of Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The Joe Dooling Autosports competitor is slated to compete Thursday through Saturday at the Indianapolis Grand Prix Circuit in Indianapolis, Ind., with the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship.
“We’ll be at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which is huge,” he said. “There’s not a lot of people that have that opportunity. To be fortunate to get to race there is really cool. The track is in the infield, but we do get to go up on the straightaways. I believe on the frontstretch we go down it backwards.”
Qualifying takes place Thursday on the 14-turn road course that measures 2.439 miles, which is the biggest track Burke has raced on thus far and the second biggest he’ll face this season. Two races will occur on Friday before the finale of the tripleheader on Saturday.
“I think it’ll be good, especially because it’s a tripleheader and not just two races,” he said. “Because it’s a tripleheader I’d like to continuously improve. I want to keep moving forward in each race.”
This weekend is the first of three tripleheaders for the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship this year and it marks the fifth through seventh rounds of the season. Burke posted his career-best result of 19th during his most recent race on April 24 at the Streets of St. Petersburg. His six positions gained were tied for the second most.
“We got caught up in a wreck in the first race and made some progress during the second one,” he said. “Hopefully we’ll keep moving forward this weekend.”
