Inside Line Promotions – LEXINGTON, Ohio (Oct. 5, 2021) – Trey Burke saved his best for last as he garnered a career-best result during the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship season finale on Sunday.

The Joe Dooling Autosports driver used patience to navigate from 21st to 13th in the feature at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

“People were spinning and wrecking and we kept it going straight,” he said. “It was really treacherous. It’s already a pretty difficult track. Being in the wet doesn’t make it any better. I think with the rolling hills it made water form up and bead. I think a lot of people just went for it. We were a lot more patient and it paid off.”

Burke also rallied from 21st to 17th during the first feature of the weekend on Saturday.

“The first race we spent the majority of the race trying to catch back up to the pack after having some good battles,” he said. “We finally got around them and with about eight laps to go there was a caution. I was able to get another spot or two after that.

“The second race was definitely chaotic. They called off qualifying halfway through because it was raining so bad. In the race the conditions had barely gotten better. There were more pace laps than actual race laps. We probably only got two or three real race laps in. I passed one or two guys and the other guys wrecked.”

The improvement throughout the weekend helped Burke earn the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars throughout the 18-race season.

“We passed 68 total cars, which was the most out of everybody,” he said. “It feels great. We did what we said we’d do. We ran dead last the first two weekends and gradually got better and better. If you look at the results we missed one of the St. Pete races, one of the Barber races, we were off on the setup at one of the oval races and ran second to last. If we had those three races back we’d have passed even more cars. I’m very optimistic about next year.”
